What You’ll Do

The Senior Claims Manager is a high-impact leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day and strategic operations of the medical claims department. This role ensures that all claims are adjudicated accurately, timely, and in compliance with ERISA, DOL, and plan document guidelines. The Senior Claims Manager plays a key role in managing vendor and partner relationships, implementing process improvements, and providing mentorship to a growing team.

  • Lead the claims adjudication function for self-funded ERISA plans, including complex claims, appeals, COB, and stop-loss coordination

  • Ensure claims are processed within TAT and accuracy standards, aligned with plan documents, internal SOPs, and federal regulations

  • Oversee a team of claims processors, auditors, and appeal specialists, including performance management, training, and development

  • Collaborate with compliance, client services, IT, and medical management teams to resolve escalated issues and improve workflows

  • Maintain working knowledge of industry best practices, claim system functionalities, and regulatory updates affecting claims

  • Drive process optimization and automation initiatives, including vendor management, repricing tools, and EDI enhancements

  • Represent the claims department during client onboarding, renewal strategy discussions, audits, and executive reporting

  • Partner with the VP of Claims & Compliance to ensure operational scalability, risk mitigation, and team alignment with company goals

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in medical claims administration within the self-funded, ERISA health plan space

  • 3+ years in a leadership or management role overseeing claims teams and/or complex claims adjudication

  • Deep knowledge of ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, COB, subrogation, coordination of benefits, and stop-loss policies

  • Experience working with claim administration software, EDI 837/835 files, and medical management integrations

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on leadership approach

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration abilities, especially cross-functionally

  • High integrity, operational excellence mindset, and a passion for improving the healthcare experience

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience working with national PPO networks and cost containment vendors

  • Exposure to modern TPA technologies or healthcare platforms

  • Familiarity with population health initiatives and value-based reimbursement models
